At-Home Workouts We Are Loving Right Now

By Nadia Murdock & Sara McGlothlin

2020 forced the fitness industry to quickly pivot, flooding the digital space with at-home Zoom workouts, streaming platforms, fitness challenges and much more.

Depending on where you are located, some restrictions are starting to ease up when it comes to studios and gyms, yet there is still uncertainty of what the future holds when it comes to fitness facilities fully reopening. One thing you can know for sure is that many people are getting comfortable (and adapting) to working out at home.

There are a multitude of ways to get fit at home, below are some the hottest ways to break a sweat outside the studio.

Apps & Websites

SWEAT by Kayla Itsines is definitely worth all the hype. If you are not ready to make the investment, simply opt for the free 7-day trail. But trust me you will definitely be hooked after that. You get the chance to workout at home with the support of a very large fitness community of women worldwide. They recently included barre and yoga too!  There are so many options it’s nearly impossible to get bored. The best part is the accountability you get from being a part of such a committed group.

Alexia Clark. If you are looking to increase your strength training, Alexia Clark’s workout library is filled with full-body routines that will leave you feeling stronger. She also isolates upper body and lower body, as well as sprinkles in some fun challenges throughout the month. There is no greater feeling than marking one of her workouts “Complete!”

Peloton. By now, you have surely heard of a Peloton bike (see below!), but their online workouts range from pilates, to yoga, to outdoor running and walking (both live and on demand). They even have great guided meditations, no matter where you are in your mindfulness journey. In other words, there is something for anyone, no matter if you own equipment or not.

Obe Fitness. This company is taking the Instagram ad game by storm. You have likely seen it pop up on your feed, or heard a “fitfluencer” talking about it. From a platform perspective, it is similar to Peloton’s App, but of course Obe Fitness sets themselves apart with their unique style and structure. Try a training program, or choose from many pre-recorded workouts. They also have live classes if you can sync up your schedule. Try to get through one of their dance cardio classes without smiling.

Kira Stokes Fit. With over 20 years of personal training experience, Kira Stokes knows what she is doing. With workouts designed and backed by exercise science, you will turn to her workouts to get stronger, more toned, and also understand the how and why behind it. Choose a body part specific workout, and opt for a full body experience. Some equipment such as bands, a ball, and weights are good to have, but not necessary. She also offers fitness challenges and a community-like feeling.

Equipment

We are all familiar with the most popularized option of the Peloton but there are definitely some equally pricey options that deserve a little attention too!

The Mirror: The Mirror is a great cardio option that includes a two-way interactive mirror that allows you to see yourself training in its reflection while watching a class instructor on screen.

Tonal Is focused on building strength through resistance training (equipment attached) and personalized coaching. The programming of the training has the capability to progress with you as you get stronger.

Fitness Challenges

Oh you know them well, it’s what has helped many of us stay connected to the outside world during the pandemic. Those challenges that make you feel strong and at the same time makes you feel you need to brush up on your dancing skills.

Lauren George, Certified barre & Pilates Instructor took it one step further and created a new website called the FitnessEducationStation.com. She offers challenges like the “30 Day Barre Party” and “The Holiday Hustle.” all in one spot for you to find with ease! “Through these challenge groups, I was able to reach and connect with a whole new group of people I could never have taught live! Many of them have become close friends and an amazing support system through the pandemic. Because of new online workout opportunities and amazing products like the Booty Kicker, home workouts will be a staple moving forward.” says George.

So whether you prefer something extremely personalized or a workout that will keep you accountable don’t fret there are several options to keep you mentallly and physically sane.
