Burnout Is Real. Tips To Help You Identify It

While it might be a buzz word in the wellness world of late, burnout is real. The fact of the matter is you have probably experienced it several times and didn’t even realize or know exactly how to classify it.  Now you maybe wondering what is burnout? 

According to HelpGuide.org “Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet constant demands.” 

What does this mean when it comes to everyday life? Burnout doesn’t only happen at work, it can happen anywhere where you may be experiencing excessive stress and/or exhaustion. With many of us slowly emerging back to our normal routine after the pandemic, this can increase or decrease levels of stress in your life. Rosalia Chann, a Celebrity Trainer and Holistic Healer, encourages clients to check in with your energy and the people around you when you are feeling drained. She goes on to say: 

“Do you have more going out than you have coming in? Do you have energy vampires around you? Assess and take necessary course of action to protect your energy!” Do either of these scenarios sound familiar?

  1. You lose the desire to do the things that bring you joy because you’re tired and desensitized. Sometimes it can also be challenging to plan ahead because you don’t know how you’re going to feel. 
  2. Experiencing Brain Fog + Memory Loss” Rosalia explains. 

If this resonates, it’s time to start putting yourself first. Identifying burnout comes from having honest conversations with yourself which can be hard at first. This condition doesn’t sneak up on you, there are actual several stages of burnout that you may be going through right now.

  • Early stages: This is when the energy of the stress is complimentary and almost acts as a fuel of inspiration or motivation.  
  • Stress starts to kick in: You will start to realize that some days are harder than others. 
  • Chronic stress: If you are always feeling a sense of pressure but for a long period of time it has become chronic. It may show up in your body with aches, pains and insomnia. 
  • Burnout has hit.
  • Habitual Burnout: This is a prolonged response to chronic stress which causes overwhelming exhaustion, detachment and a sense of ineffectiveness. 

Remember there is no shame in seeking help. If you are periodically checking in with yourself you will know when it’s time to seek support. Chann says “Help may come in the form of your doctor, a nutritionist, acupuncturist, healer or a combination of all of them. What you need to recover.”

The path to recovery isn’t always linear and the process can be made easier with support. Here is the story of one woman, and how healed herself from burnout and adrenal fatigue.
