Healthified Homemade Gluten-Free Flour Blend

Fortunately, there are a lot of gluten-free baking mixes on the market. Whether you want an all-purpose, or a pre-packaged mix for a specific baked good, you will likely be able to find what you are looking for. I even created my Gratisfied Empower Bar baking mix so that people could make their own grain-free nutrition bars at home.

When it comes to an all-purpose gluten-free flour blend, I wasn’t completely satisfied. Bob’s Red Mill brand offers the next best thing, but there is just something slightly off with the taste and texture. Its flavor leans a little too heavily towards potatoes, and my recipes were coming out too “gummy.” I knew I could create something better.

This Healthified gluten-free flour blend doesn’t use potato starch, and uses arrowroot starch instead. It is also free of nut flours for all of you Healthified bakers that need nut-free! And before you read the recipe and ask – yes, I do think the xanthan gum is necessary. I put it as optional as I know some people experience digestive distress after consuming it, but after doing some research, I don’t think it is all that bad. It also really helps support the texture of gluten-free baked goods. If you don’t even know what it is, or don’t know much about it, I wrote an extensive post outlining the pros and cons backed by scientific studies.
